Tim Brent earned his doctoral degree in Jazz Performance and master’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Miami. He holds a bachelor’s in Music Education from Western Michigan University.
Brent served as chair for the Performing Arts & Industries Department at Miami Dade College and currently serves on Western Michigan University’s voice faculty. He has served as director of vocal jazz studies at the University of North Texas, the University of the Arts, and Northern Illinois University.
Brent has been awarded nine DownBeat Magazine awards in his roles as educator, pianist, arranger, and performer. He continues to perform as a vocalist and pianist and work with high school and college vocal groups across the country as a guest clinician.
Brent composes and arranges for vocal groups at the high school and university level. He released his first solo jazz album, On the Sunny Side, in 2017.
