Doug Decker has worked as staff arranger, session musician, audio engineer, teacher and musical director from East Asia to the East Coast. He has mastered diverse musical traditions, combining informed creativity and a thorough understanding of analog and digital technology. He has worked in the music industry since his days at Berklee, where he studied piano with Larry Dominello, arranging with Barrie Nettles, and electronic music with Michael Rendish.
Doug taught jazz in Japan for six years, while working as a session musician and performing as a keyboardist. He lived in Honolulu for three years, where he worked as staff arranger and audio engineer.
After returning to Kalamazoo, Doug worked for many years at Arcadia Recording, where he installed and maintained studio equipment while serving, to this day, as location recording engineer for most of the local orchestras. He is currently the in-house recording engineer for the Gilmore Keyboard Festival, and his work is being heard around the world on the WFMT network and Performance Today on NPR.
As a dedicated instructor of music production, Doug is bringing his experience and ability to Kalamazoo College. His goal is to help students develop their passion for making music through learning and applying professional standards of music production, based on their own interests and goals.
Doug also holds a B.A. with high honors from Michigan State University.
