Wilson David Casallas Palomo is a Colombian pianist. In 2023 he earned a Master’s degree in Piano Music Performance from the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music at Western Michigan University. He studied piano performance with Lori Sims, Professor of Piano and Assistant Director at Western Michigan University. After finishing his bachelor’s degree and Master of Arts degree in Instrumental Performing and Pedagogy at the National University of Colombia, He was awarded with a scholarship to study piano performance at college of Chinese and Asean Arts in Chengdu University, China. He studied piano under the guidance of William Mac McClure, Luz Angela Posada, Patrick Lechner and Lori Sims.
He has played in master classes for Harold Martina, Marta Zabaleta,
Blanca Uribe, Eric Schoones, Jorge Luis Prats, Cyprien Katsaris, François Dumont among others.
In 2022 Wilson was awarded with the first prize in the piano competition at the 39th International Piano festival UIS in Colombia, Honor Mention at the Young soloist’s competition Orquesta Filarmonica de Colombia. 2023, First prize in the 4th edition of the Iberoamerican piano competition Luis Carlos Figueroa in Cali, Colombia, Finalist in the piano competition Beethoven Choral Fantasy, Bogota Colombia. Best Spanish Piece Performing Award in the 5th edition of the Iberoamerican piano competition Luis Carlos Figueroa, He was the winner of the concerto competition organized by the National university of Colombia, He played and recorded with Toccatta Classics discography from London the First piano concerto of Luis Carlos Figueroa.
He has received numerous internationally awards: third prize in the 2023 Robert Beardsley piano
competition in Elkhart, Indiana, USA, first prize at the BO AO Piano festival, and second prize at the LSH Asia piano competition
in China. He also received the special jury prize of the 4th edition of the Klavierwettbewerb für Junge pianisten competition (2015). Finalist in the 4th edition of the international piano competition Frederick Chopin in Lima, Peru, and a contestant for the 52nd William C. Byrd Young artist competition in Michigan, USA. (2024)
Wilson Casallas is passionate not only for the performance but to pass his knowledge and experience to his students. He was a Graduate assistant teacher and collaborative pianist at WMU, He is a piano lab teacher at the Gilmore Education in Kalamazoo Michigan, Pianist of Kalamazoo Choral Arts, Pianist of the Second Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, and Collaborative pianist at Kalamazoo College.
